The Japanese Are Doin' It

I stumbled across this cool, small-scale meeting of zine makers in Japan who are getting together to hang out in the park and sell their stuff. They do it on a blanket, hence Zine Picnic. The writing is all in Japanese, but some things are universal. Also, there are photos.

One of the ladies involved is an Australian zine maker/designer in Japan. She has an awesome, inspiring blog called Hello Sandwich and some of her stuff is almost--almost!--too cute to stomach. Here's one of the flyers from her zinemaking workshop which includes a list of supplies you might want to bring, suggested reading beforehand, and places to score materials.




Pretty clever, right? I'm taking notes.
